Program Notes
The Sonata for Tuba & Piano was composed in 2006 for Amanda Jurkovskis Plocher. The work is comprised of three movements. Movement one is in sonata form and features flowing piano phrases and light-articulated tuba writing. The second movement uses Taylor's Song for Night melody. This movement features a darker harmonic texture and requires the tuba to play in the upper range of the instrument for a beautiful, but haunting sound. The third movement is a spirited dance, with aggressive rhythmic features and exciting dynamic textures. The Sonata for Tuba and Piano is a challenging and exciting piece for the performer.
