Program Notes
A Finlandian Celebration was compose in winter of 2009. The work was commissioned by Finland Middle School, in Columbus, Ohio. The work was premiered in April of 2009 by the Finland Middle School Symphonic Band under the direction of John Selhorst.
A Finlandian Celebration is an uplifting and exiting work for young winds and percussion. The single movement work pays homage to the theme written by Jean Sibelius' timeless work, Finlandia. The theme from Finlandia was incorporated in the work because of the name of the middle school for which it was written. The use of the theme, also has great significance to the composer, as it is the theme of Finlandia is the music from his collegiate alma mater.
